Introductory oil industry strategy game
Challenge: Maersk Group needed to recruit 4,000 people to brand Maersk as a key player in the oil industry.
Learning objectives: Introduce the fundamentals of the oil industry in an engaging way and reach a lot of people.
Context of use: Self-led and major events.
Solution: The game was developed over several years with numerous iterations based on player feedback. It is a 3D multiplayer, real-time strategy game with a duration of around 10-14 minutes. In the game, you are tasked with developing offshore oil fields from scratch, and bringing the oil ashore to the refinery. You start by finding the best licenses that you then develop further. In order to develop a field, you need to complete mini-games around seismic, drilling and production. The game is used in multiple contexts, and there is a special version for industry and carrier events around the world e.g. in Qatar.
Results: On launch, the game reached +40 mio. people, resulting in +1/2 mio. players that spent an average of 18 minutes playing the game. The game has also won an international award.
