Build a city while learning English
Challenge: Engage children in English through stealth learning.
Learning objectives: Teach children the names/sounds of English letters and to spell the most common words.
Context of use: At home and school.
Solution: We developed a series of games under the MiniMo brand with MiniMo Town as the leading one. MiniMo Town is an isometric builder game where you slowly build your city by catching letters and matching them with what the citizens need.
The different citizens that live in MiniMo Town need your help, and you do so by spelling items for them. The game starts with the first letters for simple words with full help. As you spell them, the words get harder and less help is provided. If you have trouble with a word, the system will provide more help.
MiniMo Town is also home to the naughty monsters: Tickle, Fart, Thief and Slime. They will tease you in fun ways as the game progresses – e.g. one will tickle your citizens until you help or put slime all over the place so you need to clean up the mess.
You can also visit other players to watch how they have built their city.
Results: The app reached the Top-3 of iPad premium games in Denmark and a 4.5 star rating from users. MiniMo Town also won the title as the best Danish educational game in 2016.
